Agate – usually contains concentric bands or playful, irregular stripes, similar to cloud formations. Toughness index of 7 on the Mohs scale. Its name is derived from the Achates river (nowadays known as the Drillo river) in Sicily, where it was discovered, according to Theophrastus. The most beautiful agate stones are extracted from India, Brazil, Uruguay and Rheinland. Emmanuel Swedenborg describes the agate as being a symbol of good and spiritual love.
